Unity Day Assembly at Twin Pines Encourages Standing Up to Bullying

October 18th was Unity Day in the Brentwood Union Free School District and around the country, a day to celebrate inclusivity and respect for others in all school buildings. Twin Pines Elementary School welcomed Theatre Three in Port Jefferson for a special presentation of "Stand Up! Stand Out! The Bullying Project."

The forty-minute assembly told the story of how bullying has multiple forms and the best ways to be an "upstander" through music, puppetry, and lessons told in the style of nursery rhymes. At the end of the performance, students had the opportunity to participate in a question-and-answer session with the cast.

Many of the students wore orange t-shirts in solidarity with the event to support acceptance and raise awareness for building a better community.
